1. Information We Collect

When you use MealSafely, we collect the following types of information:

• Account information: your email address and name when you register.
• Food profiles: dietary restrictions, allergies, sensitivities, and food dislikes you enter for yourself and household members.
• Usage data: meal ideas generated, barcode scans performed, menus created, and shopping lists built.
• Subscription data: plan type and billing information (payment details are handled by Stripe and never stored on our servers).
• Device information: browser type, operating system, and IP address for security and analytics.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Generate personalized, safe meal ideas based on your household's dietary needs.
• Check food products against your profiles during barcode scans.
• Manage your account, subscription, and billing.
• Improve the accuracy and relevance of our AI meal generation.
• Send transactional emails (account confirmation, subscription receipts).
• Detect and prevent fraud or abuse of the platform.

3. Food Profile Data

Your food profiles contain sensitive health-related information. We treat this data with the utmost care:

• Food profile data is private to your account by default.
• Shareable profiles (Family plan) are shared only when you explicitly generate a share link.
• We do not sell, rent, or share your dietary data with third-party advertisers.
• Profile data is only used to power the features you use within MealSafely.

4. Data Sharing

We share your data only in these limited circumstances:

• Service providers: We use Stripe for payments, and AI providers to power meal generation and barcode safety checks. These providers have their own privacy policies.
• Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
• Business transfers: If MealSafely is acquired, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction, with prior notice to you.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all associated food profiles, meal ideas, shopping lists, and usage records are permanently deleted within 30 days. Billing records may be retained longer as required by law.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate data in your account settings.
• Delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings.
• Export your data by contacting us at privacy@mealsafely.com.

7. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to your data is restricted to authorized personnel only. However, no system is perfectly secure — please use a strong, unique password for your account.

8. Children's Privacy

MealSafely is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Parents may create profiles on behalf of their children as part of a family account.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or via an in-app notice. Continued use of MealSafely after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
